The following is a short history of Woodland.
In August, 1976, Ridgecrest Baptist Church of Columbus and BMA of MS agreed to co-support a mission church in Columbus. Support would continue until the church could become self-supporting. Fifteen members from Ridgecrest came to help establish the church.
Land was purchased, clearing began and foundation was laid in November, 1976. A portion of the building was completed and the first service was March 6, 1977 with 15 in Sunday School and 17 in Worship Services. First additions were March 27, 1977 with 9 members. God continued to bless in numbers and financially and Woodland Mission was organized into Woodland Baptist Church on May 12, 1977 with 59 charter members. The church voted to give at least 10% of offerings to missions and has continued to give 10% or more. Woodland was able to be self-supporting after three months.
The first Sunday in July was chosen to give thanks to God for His goodness and blessings. We had 88 in Sunday School on that day.
The fellowship hall and gym were completed in 1985, our first note burning was held in January 1992. The new sanctuary was completed and dedicated July 1, 2001 with note burning held on July 2, 2006.
In 2009, the members of Woodland Baptist Church elected to become affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and ended the membership with the BMA of MS.
Woodland has made 3 mission trips to Honduras to help build and establish churches – 1992 , 1994 and 1996. We have had 9 pastors and 3 interim pastors.
