Come join us this Sunday night for a special time of worship as we remember what the Christmas season is all about.  Several of our members and leaders will narrate the Christmas story from the Scriptures and sing congregational songs remembering and praising God for what he has done through the incarnation of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

At the end of the service we will light candles and remember that Jesus is the “Light of the World.”  This will usher us into the New Year as we begin our time in the gospel of John.

AM Worship, Final Lord’s Supper of 2012

Lord's Supper

19 And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood. 21 But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table. 22 For the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!” 23 And they began to question one another, which of them it could be who was going to do this.

Pastoral Comments – The Lord’s Supper is a critical part of the life of the Church of Jesus Christ.  It is a time of “Remembering and Repenting,” as Believers.  We come together and partake of the body and blood of Christ symbolically.  We are to approach the Lord’s table in good conscience, properly examining ourselves.  Paul teaches that there can be severe physical and spiritual consequences from participating in an “unworthy manner,” meaning, that if we come to the Lord’s table without Godly sorrow over our sins and a willingness to forgive those that have wronged us, that we can “drink judgment unto ourselves.”  So, whether you are me, typing this, or a member of Woodland reading this, or someone that is member of church somewhere else…take the Lord’s Supper very seriously, it is not as I have heard many people say, “a wasted Sunday.”

Acts 19:1-10, The Disciples of John the Baptist…The Hall of Tyrannus, Part 2 + Ecumenical Councils

And it happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the inland country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples. And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.” And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying. There were about twelve men in all.

And he entered the synagogue and for three months spoke boldly, reasoning and persuading them about the kingdom of God. But when some became stubborn and continued in unbelief, speaking evil of the Way before the congregation, he withdrew from them and took the disciples with him, reasoning daily in the hall of Tyrannus. 10 This continued for two years, so that all the residents of Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.

Notes – December 5, 2012 – Acts 19, 1-10

After we finish Acts 19:1-10, we will look for a few minutes at the Ecumenical Councils that determined what the early church believed about the nature of the Trinity, which includes the Incarnation, which is why we celebrate Christmas.  The resulting “Creed of Nicea” is also attached for you to read.  It is very important that we know our Christian history.
