Paul Arrives in Jerusalem, Acts 21:17-25

jewish-temple-faith-and-facts17 When we had come to Jerusalem, the brothers received us gladly. 18 On the following day Paul went in with us to James, and all the elders were present. 19 After greeting them, he related one by one the things that God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry. 20 And when they heard it, they glorified God. And they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed. They are all zealous for the law, 21 and they have been told about you that you teach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or walk according to our customs. 22 What then is to be done? They will certainly hear that you have come. 23 Do therefore what we tell you. We have four men who are under a vow; 24 take these men and purify yourself along with them and pay their expenses, so that they may shave their heads. Thus all will know that there is nothing in what they have been told about you, but that you yourself also live in observance of the law. 25 But as for the Gentiles who have believed, we have sent a letter with our judgment that they should abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality.”

Mother’s Day Message – Unfading Beauty, 1 Peter 3:1-7

Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by theUnfadingbeauty conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct. Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening.

Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you[a] of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

Obviously, Missy is the photographer!

Please come join us this Sunday night as we hear testimony from another one of our newly ordained deacons and his spouse at Woodland Baptist, as Jonathan McCoy and his bride of 19 years, Missy, share from their hearts about their walk with Christ.

Johnathan works with Dyncorp at C.A.F.B. and Missy works at Ecolab-Microtec. They have been faithful members of Woodland Baptist for about three years and have become trusted leaders and loyal servants.  They have one son, Zach who is 15 and goes to Columbus High and is very involved in the ministries of the church as well.

Jonathan enjoys shooting and hunting, Missy enjoys designing and crafts and Zach enjoys Boy Scouts and the outdoors.  Please come and be encouraged as we hear how God is forming Christ in them.

Sunday Morning Worship – John 1:29-34, Lamb of God

Johnbaptizingjesus29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” 32 And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. 33 I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”

National Day of Prayer – Thursday, May 2nd

NDP-LOGO_221X96-COLORWe are experiencing some very difficult times in our nation.  We are no strangers to difficult times, however, I don’t know that the American Church has ever been so weak as it is now, which adds to the difficulty in fighting the trajectory of the cultural shift in the minds of our fellow citizens.

Of course, we as disciples of Christ should not live in fear over the current realities and debates happening in our nation, as there will always be “darkness” on which to shed light, and there will always be a tendency for people’s minds to be “conformed to the world.”

However, we should be deeply concerned and take personal responsibility for those in our midst that are living outside the revealed will of God in Scripture.  One of the ways that God has commanded his people to take personal responsibility is to pray earnestly.

On Thursday, May 2nd, our entire nation will take time to pray corporately and plead with God, that America would turn to Him, the one true God of the universe revealed once and for all in Christ Jesus and turn away from idols and the “spirit of the age.”  Please join me and my family and our church as we make it a priority to pray…pray…pray!  http://nationaldayofprayer.org/  http://commit2pray.com/

Woodland Baptist will be open from 6:30 – 11:00am and serve breakfast items, juice and coffee!
